Wuhan, referred to as Han in short, is the provincial capital of Hubei, People’s Republic of China. Most of its 10.22 million people speak Wuhan dialect and are Han. Comprised of three parts—Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan lies in central China and the eastern Jianghan Plain at the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze, the world’s 3rd longest river and its largest tributary Han river. With a network of rivers, lakes and harbors, water covers an area of 2217.6 square Kilometers, 1/4 of Wuhan’s total. Wuhan has been known as River City since ancient times due to its lakeside and riverside eco-environment.
